Guide to Literary Agents - How I Got My Agent: Don J. Rearden

Guide to Literary Agents - How I Got My Agent: Don J. Rearden

Above you'll find the link to short piece I wrote for Chuck Sambuchino's blog, a popular blog for writers, editors, and agents. A contest is running for the week, and one person who comments on my article will win a copy of The Raven's Gift. Essentially I tell the story of how I found my awesome agent. Check it out, for a laugh at me or a chance at winning my novel!

Debut novels grabs reader with opening image - Winnipeg Free Press

Debut novels grabs reader with opening image - Winnipeg Free Press (click link to left to read review)

I've been horrible about posting anything on the blog lately, with all the other stuff going on relating to the release of The Raven's Gift, but I thought I'd share this great review written by author Anita Daher in the Winnipeg Free Press. For those who are curious and/or geographically challenged, Winnipeg is in Manitoba and has a population of over 1.1 million people, almost twice the population of the entire state of Alaska!

Novel Ponders Life After Civilization

Novel Ponders Life After Civilization

In case you don't listen to Alaska Public Radio --- you can catch my interview with KYUK's Shane Iverson here! I talk a little about my inspiration for The Raven's Gift and a little about some of the history of epidemics in Alaska. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to share my story statewide. I owe a special thanks to Shane, KYUK, and the Alaska Public Radio Network. They all do great work and Alaska wouldn't be the same without public radio. Heck, I had no choice but to use public radio to tell my parents that I was getting married! They spend much of the year in a little cabin outside of McGrath, Alaska, without phone access and I actually had to call KSKO in McGrath and put the message on the radio for my parents to hear!

This interview aired statewide on January 12, 2011.

A Radio Interview with my hometown station! KYUK Radio

This week I was elated to have an interview with KYUK Radio's own Shane Iverson.  Years ago some friends and I terrorized the airwaves of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta with our own radio show on KYUK. I won't name the friends, but the show was called The Kevin, Ralph, and Don Show with Sir Substitute Matt and sometimes Zach.  We played music, wrote entertaining skits, and prank called people live. Somewhere along the way I'm sure we also broke a few FCC rules. Those were the good old days...

You can hear the interview live here: KYUK
(If you've never heard the Yup'ik Language check out the KYUK Yup'ik News link!)

I have a few corrections to an otherwise great interview, so as to keep the crazy birthers at bay: I was born in Great Falls, Montana and I think have a birth certificate somewhere with my name spelled R-E-A-R-D-E-N. (And I teach English at UAA not UAF! But I did graduate from UAF!).

Thanks to Shane, KYUK,  and all the fine folks in the YK Delta and the rest of Alaska (and Montana!) for all the support and encouragement.

Best Radio Station Ever!
